The North East work adventure – Bagdogra Installation

Day 2 – 20th February 2020

Breakfast was aloo puri and chole bhature.

Bathure were like chewing gum.. but the Aloo puri was edible.

Headed to the base and began working by about 10 am.

Setting up the pipe line and opening all the crates to check for transit damages and assimilate the work. By noon we were quite tired and lunch was at the army canteen 3km away.

Preparation of lunch took over an hour.. And by the time we got back we had about 2-3 hours of work light only.

Headed back to the hotel by 6pm. Y and J both wanted to end the day with some alcohol and I went hunting for some.

I met Amit and Harish of Bel at the PWD office.

He wanted us to figure out if we can arrange to be at hasimara by 14/15 March as he is scheduled to be there as well.

It would be easier getting work done with him around.

This all depended on the Tezpur and Jorhat material reaching on time. Will find that out in a day or two and decide.

Harish directed me to a liquor store, and I picked up an old monk for Y and McDowell whisky for J. Invited Harish to join us.

Walked back a good 1.5km to the hotel, on the way feasted on jaggery rosogolla at gaur nitti restaurant. Picked up samosas for the drink session.

Set up the drinks and few starters in my room. Y And J arrived at around 830pm and Harish followed soon after.

Drinking and discussion went on till 12 am. Most dominated by J reminiscent of the “good” old days with dad and how they built the company together.

Soon enough it turned towards how I need to talk less and work more, relating to an incident in the morning where I was showing some of the products we sold, to the electrical contractor that morning and also talking to the other civil contractors during lunch.

Was quite embarrassing.. but had to grin and bear it.
