The north-east work adventure – Jorhat

Day 11 – 29 Feb 2020

The transporter called promptly at 730 saying material is ready.

We finished breakfast and reached the transporter office by 815 am. Informed Biswajit that we’d be there by 9 am at the gate. He assured us he would be there.

Reached by 8.50 am and called Biswajit who said he’d be there in ten mins. 30 mins later there is still no sign of the man.

Called him again and he said 10-15 mins he’ll be there. I am starting to lose patience with this chap… Soaking in the hot sun on top of a goods laden truck is not fun 😣

Got J and the driver to get across the first gate on J’s pass. By the time we reached 2nd gate, Biswajit came there by 11 am.

We unloaded the material and were at work by 1145 am. Got J to go to the post office with Biswajit and get the Mieco pump to the room, while Y and I opened the packages and set about making the pipe lines. J was back by 1pm and work pace increased.

Had simple lunch at the mess, decided to finish maximum work on Saturday to ensure we get a Sunday to ourselves to relax in preparation of a busy week ahead of Tezpur and Guwahati locations between Tuesday and Friday.

Nearing the end of the day found there was a bunch of small clamps, nuts and bolts missing from the lot and an air blow gun.

We reached the hotel by 5 and also found the hose we had bought for the pump was the wrong size. By 7 we head back to Tirupati machinery Store for exchanging the hoses and buying the rest of the stuff

Y went back to the hotel, as he wanted some ” energy drink” after the long day.. and I walked around the place for sometime, found Y his eye drops, and went back to the hotel.

Didn’t feel like eating from the restaurant and head back out to for dinner hunt

Arranged to head to Kaziranga for a safari tomorrow. It will be Y’s first safari ever, and J’s 2nd Safari ever..(His only other Safari had been into Bannerghatta before his marriage).

Had a long conversation with Preeti, and slept at 11 to be woken up to loud hammering sounds at 8 am the next day!!
