The north-east work adventure – Guwahati

Day 18 – 8th March 2020

Sunday we reached the airforce station by 10 am and got to work by 11ish.

I had very little to do, as it was the more technical parts of the installation which Y and J are there to do.

After much prodding, we were done by 3 pm post lunch at the airline mess

The driver took us to Lachit Ghat on the banks of brahmputra river. Called Sanjeev, but he mentioned he was stuck in a minor accident involving a friend.

We head to the umananda island temple on a boat cruise a little ahead of lahith ghat.

For a princely sum of Rs 20 per person, we got a packed boat ride to this small island where the Ahom Dynasty temple to lord Shiva has stood.

The slowly setting sun from the ferry
The pujaris playing gambling games on the temple porch.. maybe they were testing of the gods were happy with them or not 😉

We stood in a long queue to enter the temple. The main chamber is the one that built by the Ahom Dynasty.

It’s built lower to the ground and in a cave sort of entrance. Dimly lit by the prayer lamps and the rhythmic chants of the priest make the experience surreal.

The return boat ride was the last on for the day. So we were packed in it like sardines, easily more than 300 people on the ferry.

We head back to the hotel, as it was getting dark and no where else to see.
