The north-east work adventure – Tezpur

Day 14 – 3rd March 2020

By 645 am we had checked out of the hotel. We got on our way to Tezpur.

The weather was pleasant due to the rains last night.

Our breakfast stop at Bokakhat
Puri bhaji
Gond laddoo
A while since I saw a menu written like this

Reached Tezpur by 1045 am and checked in to hotel K.F.

Connected with the transporter and Angshuman ( the same guy from chabua). Material was in Tezpur but not yet reached the airforce base. And our pass was not yet ready as well.

Connected transporter to Angshuman to make the delivery ASAP. And bugged Angshuman all afternoon for the status on the pass.

Finally at 2.30pm Angshuman called and informed that the material is being unloaded as we speak, and that the pass is also finally signed. But we could only go in tomorrow as it’s past the office time.

One whole day wasted sitting in the hotel room.

Hired an auto to “agnigarh”, a park with a view of the Brahmaputra river. A princely sum of 250 got be me there and back in an hour.

Agnigarh is a view point and park. Dotted with statues of Chitralekha

Had a cup of tea outside the hotel and returned to the room.

Angshuman was at my door around 8 pm and we went to the lounge bar for drinks and dinner.

Interesting chap. A Deputy general manager at BEL. Stays in Jorhat, but has a good experience working with Mahindra. KF hotel is practically home for him, as he’s stayed here for a month or two during initial project days. Loves to travel, and is into fitness as well.

A sea change from Biswajit at Jorhat.

Had old monk and good chicken Biryani for dinner and retired by 10pm.

I had set up the go pro on the tripod for night shots of the Tezpur circle. Got some nice slow shutter shots

The AC made a weird nose at around 3 am and I had to put it off. Going to sleep post that was difficult and then just as I was about to sleep again it was time to wake up.

It took me a while to find the geyser in the bathroom, as it was placed just above the entrance. Water took 20-25 mins to heat up.

The hotel has a set menu system for breakfast, where they r your order the previous night and delivered the entire set menu to the room. The room is tiny, hence the only place to put the fully laden tray was on the bed!

Horrible tea was served. Had masala omelette and fought with the sachets of jam with buttery fingers till I was able to wolf down two slices of bread.

Post a quick bath and we headed down to the reception to wait for the car.

I took a share auto to the airforce base as their were already 5 people Plus material to take to the base.

Ten people in one auto was quite the experience!!!

We were able to get a pass quite quickly and we got to our site by 1030 am.

We were able to find most of our stuff, and I had to meet the wing commander paliwal to get his go ahead of demonstration of the 15hp compressor in another building due to lack of 3 phase power in our site.

Work was done at a brisk pace, and we are hopeful to finish the installation and demo by tomorrow before lunch if the airforce allows.

Reached KF hotel at 630 pm. Updated dad and Preeti about the day. Rested a bit and head out for another walk with Y.

Had a chicken roll and a small scoop of icecream for dinner.

Was about to hit the bed at 930 pm, when there was loud banging on my door by room service asking me if I wanted dinner. Grrrrr

Finally slept by 1030 not bothering to put the ac on.
