The North East work adventure – Hasimara
Day 22 – 13 March 2020
Oh what a day!..
The Bel engineer had a site inspection by his superiors and they had come enmass with the airforce officers as well.
He had assured me that inspection will be done in the morning only and we will be off by noon.
It was arranged last night for Sumit to pick us up from the hotel and bring us in.
We had connected with Sandeep enterprises for some critical material for the car washer and the compressor like anti-vibration pads, a safety valve and an auto drain unit. All of which was missed in sending to us from Bangalore.
We had breakfast at “laddu hotel” on the high way, and Sumit dropped us off, while he went to get the parcel.
45 mins, 2 omelettes and 2 tea later he came, but the parcel had not reached us
We went back to his office, and one more chai later the parcel arrived
It was nearly 11 by the time we reached the gate, and the same wait for an airforce officer to come and escort us happened, sir to some of to in the request numbers that the officer has sent for making a pass
Rakesh had informed that the DG was ready and waiting
By 1230 we reached the site, no Dg no Rakesh, no-one around.
In half hour we fit everything , checked and rechecked all connections.
A DG was arranged by then by the military equipment services unit.
Started the compressor, explained all the products to Sumit and then the wait began.
By 1.30 the entourage of inspectors, officers, Bel engineers arrived in 4 innovas. It was a like scene from Singham or any other South Indian action movie.
They left the site in 5 mins, and here we were waiting for them to inspect. Rakesh looked like his goose was cooked, the tension on his face was quite apparent
We had a late lunch at the canteen of roti, bhaji and a horrible masala vada.
Back to the site by 230, and we waited till 415pm. Almost ready to give up, and Rakesh called saying he will be there in 10 minutes with the airforce officer for inspection.
30 mins later, the airforce guy comes along, asking if Rakesh had come. The then said he is going to his office to bring his list to cross check with ours and he will be back in 10 mins
20 more mins later the airforce officer arrived but no sign of Rakesh.
We began the inspection, and half way through Rakesh arrived looking quite frazzled.
We showed them again all the items, and at the end of which he requested to stay back till Monday got the maintenance units inspection. I balked at that idea and told him we had booked our tickets and we will not wait any longer. Sumit also assured him he will be able to explain the components to anyone else
We head back to the PWD office for Rakesh to sign the documents confirming the installation
By then I had booked our tickets on an Air Asia flight for 1.20 pm
